19 Crimes Launches Beer Line in U.S.

On March 1, 2019, the immensely popular 19 Crimes wine released a line of three craft beers in the United States.

The IPA, Pilsner and lager will be sold in a six pack for $13 and brewed by Sleeping Giant Brewery in Denver, Colorado. Sleeping Giant is the only contract brewery west of the Mississippi River.

19 Crimes wine launched in the U.S. six years ago, and gained fame for its augmented reality wine labels. Each bottle features a photograph of a person convicted of one of the 19 crimes that would earn them exile to Australia, rather than a death sentence in 18th century Britain.

Users can download the Living Wine Labels App, point their phone at the bottle and watch as the images come to life to tell the convict’s story.

Like the wine, the beer will also have augmented reality labels. The initial lineup will feature the photographs of John Boyle O’Reilly, exiled for treason in 1867; Michael Harrington, known for orchestrating an escape from Australia in 1876; and Cornelius Dwyer Kane, a law clerk in County Cork also convicted of treason, though eventually pardoned in 1871.

The beers are currently available in Ohio, but will expand to more states by the end of the year.
